U15 - Super Sunday

The ground staff pulled the match due to a heavy water logged pitch which was a downer but the rest of Sunday was great. Our U12s grabbed another win in their first campaign AND we sent lots of American fans home early as we retained the Ryder Cup against all the odds !!!!!

What a summer of sport, The Olympics, The Para Olympics, Murray's first Grand Slam and now the Ryder Cup, tikkityboo @!!@!!!

U15s HAPPY TRAVELS

A hectic first 15 minutes saw the team go 2 - Nil down with Poole playing good football and looking as though they might dominate the first half to effectively finish the game.

Nidd slowly clawed themselves back in to the game and after a slight change in formation the lads started to play the passing game they enjoy. Despite some robust challenges Nidd continued to press and just before half time Plant's corner was converted at the near post by Philips, his second of the campaign, a timely intervention.

Clark playing his first game of the season floated a perfectly flighted ball rom a free kick with Hodgson going close to equalise.

The second half started brightly and the teams were level after 15 mins with Nidd taking the lead with 20 minutes to go. Unfortunately, the nature of the game took a bad tempered turn but pleasingly the Nidd players just got on with the business of playing football how it should be played. Sowray in goal was outstanding with crucial saves from strong Poole attacks.

Philips and Clark took the goals in the second half and Nidd ran out 3-2 winners, their third victory away from home on the bounce. A solid performance and one which every member of the squad played their part in, showed respect and remained level headed.

Sowray, Walmsley, Webster, Dougal, Beeley, Clark, Owens, Philips, Palmer, Plant, Hodgson, Kadic, Sheerins.

Philips (2), Clark (1)

U15s Two on the Bounce & Fair Play

A solid performance from the U15s, good retention of the ball, quick passing and hard work in the second half against an increasing breeze.

Nidd took the lead in the 20th minute after a strong run by Hodgson which was finished off with a robust shot. More chances fell Nidd's way with Hodgson, Plant and Owens coming close.

With the half almost over Beckwithshaw were awarded a penalty which posed questions but Nidd accepted the decision. Entrance stage left, Beckwithshaw's coaching team stepped in to advise the ref that it was clearly not as penalty but just a corner.

The ref considered his initial decision and awarded a corner.

We are not Olympians but that sort of behaviour and attitude is Olympian !

Half way through an evenly contested second half Beckwithshaw seized on a defensive slip to equalise only to see Hodgson bag his second 10 minutes later from a strong counter attack started by Maccalman and Will Owen.

Plant went close again with strong supporting play from Beeley and Walmsley. Other mentions go to Philips (captain), Webster, Dougal and Owen not to mention Sheerins making his way back to fitness.

Beckwithshaw pressed chasing the equaliser with Sowary in the Nidd goal demonstrating agility, strong hands and bravery.

In the back ground breaking down attacks and  spoiling opposition attacks, Alex Palmer a solid member of the squad for the last 3 seasons.

Squad : Sowray, Walmsley, Webster, Dougal, Palmer, Beeley, Owens, Philips, Maccalman, Plant, Hodgson, Owen, Sheerins

Goals : Hodgson 20, 60

New U12s Take Their Chance to Shine

Perhaps caught in the beam of the headlights Nidd's new U12's went a goal down early on.

A growing confidence, adapting to playing on a bigger pitch and at the new format of 9 v 9 the squad steadily progressed and good passing play through the thirds saw Nidd move in to a 3 - 1 lead.

With only 5 minutes remaining a handball was awarded to Lawnswood and from the spot kick the score moved to 3-2 but that is how it stayed to record a great performance and and great start to the new U12 campaign.

It was especially pleasing to receive positive feedback from the Lawnswood Coaching Team, so well done U12s, A Caven hat trick crowned an excellent Squad performance.

U15s - Good Performance, Right Result - Done !

A hot day and a squad reduced to just 11 players due to injuries and other commitments.

A few changes to way we do things complimented by the continued ethos of playing football saw Nidd start strongly in what proved to be an evenly contested first half which finished very positively with a far post header by Philipps from Plant's in-swinging corner, 1 - nil.

In the second half debutant Luke Hodgson linked well with midfield creating attaching opportunities down both flanks. Nidd began to press and peppered the goal with shots from Plant, Beeley and Hodgson.

The defence was well marshalled and kept Wetherby at bay but they remained a threat and with only minutes to go hit the right hand post from a long range strike. Sowray kept calm, a good performance and his resulting goal kick saw the match draw to a close.

A hard working, well disciplined performance with flashes of quick passing play through the lines.

The day was polished off with the usual hospitality from Wetherby, chips, drinks and a friendly atmosphere in the club house.

Team:     Sowray, Walmsley, Webster (c), Dougal, Beeley, Palmer, Owens, Plant, Philips, Kadic,
               Hodgson

               Goal : Phillips 38
